Mengqi Zhang, MD, PhD

Mengqi is a clinician-oriented scientist who received her MD and PhD in Clinical Medicine from Central South University. She is fascinated by the dynamic nature of blood vessels and their critical role in brain health, focusing her research on vascular remodeling in acute and chronic cerebrovascular diseases. At UCSF, she investigates the intricate crosstalk between vessels, immune cells, and metabolism, using cutting-edge approaches to study neurovascular networks and their interactions in disease states. Beyond the laboratory, she finds joy in exploring new cultures through travel and discovering hidden culinary gems in the Bay Area. She finds balance through music, playing both keyboard and zither, believing that the precision required in both music and science enhances her creative thinking.
